About The Project

Club Penguin Rewritten Expansion

For this specific project we were tasked to come up with an expansion for a game and make animations to go along with it. As Club Penguin Rewritten was allowed to run at the time and I wanted to relive a section of my childhood, I decided to go with club Penguin Rewritten. This expansion focused on Puffles and Card-Jitsu as there was a lack of both features in the game at the time and I thought I could design an expansion that incorporated both of them. By doing this I made animations of ninja Puffles and Sensei for the expansion.

Idea Presentation

Presenting to my peer

Above is the presentation that I gave to my peer for my idea and final work for this expansion project. For this presentation I decided to present to a live audience as last time I didn't present to anyone. I've found that by presenting to a live audience you can get a more authentic reaction to the idea and not one that is through text online. For someone who wants to go into the industry I believe that this was a good thing to learn as it's better to know if a game is bad before it ships and fails. On top of this, I have developed my confidence in presenting ideas to people which is always helpful no matter what industry I end up in.

Development

Making of the Expansion

Preproduction was me researching 3 games and picking the game I would enjoy creating an Expansion for the most. Out of Skyrim, Club Penguin, and Tomodachi Life I went with Club Penguin as that was the game I was more passionate about at the time. From here I researched what people thought of Club Penguin rewritten and came up with ideas with what people thought were good or bad. This was the reason for the expansion idea as I saw other people miss Puffles and the Dojo as well.
Whilst developing this project I was able to learn about animation and how difficult it can be to make continuity from the original game. For example, when I was doing 2D animation I realized I couldn't draw the characters well so I had to borrow images form online to fit continuity. By doing this I actually sped up development and made the animation a lot better. With the 3D animation I had to go to the same lengths to try and keep continuity with that animation. The last thing this taught me was to pick projects and ideas that aren't out of my skill range but also develops them so the work is the best possible in the end.
Below are links to the production log and diary for the work I've produced to get more of an idea of what the development was like for this project.
