Hello again, today I am going to talk about some soft skills that would be useful if you would like to get into the gaming industry. Today I am going to concentrate on these to showcase that sometimes-knowing hard skills isn't more important than soft skills. Hopefully this allows you to have the confidence to apply for jobs in the gaming and tech industries.

  1. Collaboration: the gaming industry is a very collaborative industry so if you can share and collaborate then you can get into the industry, no matter the job. This skill also helps to make the game run smoother as many departments could be working together.

  2. Effective Communication: communication can be anything from phone calls, to emails, to even verbal communication so being effectively communicate is an essential for any career. If you can effectively communicate any little thing or problem then the game can be created successfully, and without problems.

  3. Time Management: If you don’t keep up on deadlines then it could mean ever more work for someone else, or a delay in production. This could be avoided if you could manage time and stay up to date on your deadlines. This proves that it is important to your job and what you're making to be able to be an effective time manager.

  4. Adaptability: not all careers in the gaming field is programming and drawing, there’s so many more like writing, business, and music to name a few. Being able to adapt any potential skills that you have to the industry could be helpful to get into the industry. On top of this you might need to be able to learn or do something that’s out of your comfort zone, so being able to adapt to it would be beneficial to your job.

  5. Persistence: Games design can be a very tiring but rewarding job, and if you give up when its tiring then you wouldn’t get the rewards of the job. In fact, if you don’t have persistence then you might not be able to get a job with half-finished projects. This is due to one bad and finished project always looks better than four good but unfinished projects. Persistence truly is key.

  6. Creativity: being able to come up with “out of the box” solutions to things would be helpful in any situation, especially in games. You'll likely to oversee creating story lines or challenging puzzles so having a creative mind would benefit a lot.

  7. Storytelling Abilities: from compelling plot lines to character development there are so much you can do with just the ability to tell stories. This skill can help with your creativity skills as both would come hand in hand, so if you want to write games these are probably the best for you.

  8. Critical Thinking: Knowing what's a good idea or bad one and being able to say why could help with any tasks your set with. This is especially prevalent at the beginning when every card is being put on the table. So, if you know what and why something is bad then you could get into the industry somehow.

  9. Decisiveness: being able to make quick and good decisions can help to make good games. This is because if you are half in/ half out then no one would take your opinions seriously, so being decisive is a bonus. On top of this if you are put into a position of power, making decisions is important if the game is good or not.

  10. Negotiation: any negotiation, big or small, can hinder the workplace. If you’re good at negotiation, then being in a situation where everyone has different needs and wants will be a huge bonus to be able to come up with a way to make them happy with anything you come up with. This is like games design where you must figure out how to make the animation, programming, and other departments happy and work well together.

That’s my top ten soft skills that you can have for the gaming industry, and I hope that you learnt a thing or two from this. See you later.
