Recently, I bought a hacked 2DS XL and would love to share my first impressions of using the system. Just to be absolutely clear, I will be discussing only the software and not the hardware, as this blog will focus solely on the hacked side of the system. Everything that has been downloaded is legal, assuming you are a lawyer or a policeman. With that out of the way, let's get into the review.
Ease to use/ understand
All homebrew software were easy to use and to understand. The one I use the most is the H-shop, the hacked version of the E-shop, to download any games and I worked it out within 15 minutes. This was as the software was made to be able to download any games you own with ease, just like the original E-shop.
Games available
Most, if not all 3ds games were readily available from the H-shop with a few added fan made ports and mods. The ports and mods are a great addition and I haven't yet spotted a game that you couldn't download from the 3DS's vast library. I have also noticed that the H-shop also comes with a long list of Gameboy, SNES, and NES games. As I wasn't a part of that generation, I'm not sure if it is all of the games but the ones most commonly spoken about were on there. If you use the universal installer to install Twilight ++ and a PC with an SD card adapter you can install original DS games too! To do this you would need to legally obtain the ROMs for the DS games and insert them yourself into the NDS folder, but it was a relatively simple process with the right YouTube guide. With a guide you are also able to install some of your own ROMs of NES, SNES, and Gameboy games into Twilight ++! Overall, you get a relatively large library of games on one system and it is pretty cool.
Play-ability
The playability of the games are pretty smooth. I've played at least two games from the 3DS, NES, SNES, and DS and have noticed that they have run like it was on their native hardware. Even though I haven't tried all of the games available it is worth a guess that almost all, if not all work well. To make sure that they do run well on your system it is advised to get one of the "new" models of the 3DS's as the older models may have troubles running games like Minecraft.
Other apps
Like most homebrew systems you are able to download some apps and software that you usually wouldn't be allowed to download. Two of the best examples are Twilight ++, Homebrew menu, and the HShop. These allow you to play and download a vast majority of games as well as apps that make the lights change on the actual hardware. Very cool if I say so myself!
Overall
Overall my impressions are good and I really recommend to people who love older Nintendo games. The ability to play a majority of older generations of Nintendo is my favorite part of the hacked system. I would recommend to most if not all Nintendo fans.
