Hello in this blog I’m going to discuss the different roles in the games industry. Hopefully this blog post will help spread awareness of the different types of jobs in the industry, and what you would need to get into them. This blog doesn't cover all of the careers but there is a link down below in which you can check out.
Games programmer
A games programmer can program anything from the AI to the Physics and even the graphics. These jobs require extensive coding knowledge in languages like C++ and C#, and sometimes extensive knowledge of Physics and maths depending on the job. Many people in these careers have a love of maths, coding, and occasionally designing things. Most jobs require a degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, and other related courses.
Games Artist
A games artist can be the concept artist, environmental artist, or the lead artist for the game. Many artists have a degree, which provides professional development and a recognised qualification to employers. However, there are many available pathways and all people working in games claim a unique career journey. Many people in these roles have a love for drawing and designing things.
Community assistant/director/manager
A career in any of these jobs would mean that you would be communicating with the game’s community. Some, but not all people in these roles have degrees in business or marketing. This role is right for you if you love things like social media, communication, and writing/reading. You will also need to showcase experience in content, social media, marketing, analytics and customer support.
Designer
A design job in the games industry can be anything from the economy designer, games designer, or UI designer. These specific roles would need extensive knowledge in the parts that you are the designing. Degrees in economics, games design, or art &design would definitely be handy.
